Cycling with a crop duster…

Riding my bicycle alongside a crop duster this morning, I thought, “Maybe ignorance really is bliss.”

Ten days in Tennessee has mirrored how I felt during ten days in Kathmandu, Nepal: mild respiratory restriction, headache, an occasional cough… and an instinctive pull to stay indoors.

In Bend and Baja, I can take a recommended daily dose of Cell Defender and feel supported. But after researching the air and water quality here in Tennessee, I realize—I need to boost my dose while I’m here.

Even though I’ve seen these reports before, it was shocking to be reminded of the long-term effects of toxins and metals in our air and water: increased risk of asthma, lung disease, allergies, brain and cognition issues, reproductive harm —and cancer.

From being burned at age two—which severely compromised my health and immune system—to returning from Panama in 2012 with a Shiga Toxin-Producing E. coli, a family history of Alzheimer’s, dementia, depression and obesity, I’ve been a seeker of finding ways to feel better. Sharing the wisdom we’ve gained throughout our lives with others is the silver lining to our struggles, right? Bringing meaning to our suffering.

I’m so grateful for the guidance God has given me—to protect and support my health in a world where our air, food, and water can quietly work against us.
